My experience with the ASEA Advancing Life Foundation’s Mozambique Expedition-1 was deeply meaningful and unforgettable. It was far more than simply travelling to serve communities. It was an opportunity to learn, reflect, grow, and witness the resilience and beauty of the human spirit.
What stayed with me most was the opportunity to serve alongside people who were committed not simply to visiting a community, but to contributing with care, dignity, humility, and respect.
During the expedition, we helped with the foundation for a new structure in one community. We also visited another community where Care for Life provided a health and wellness program, and we spent Children’s Day with children who were taught important hygiene practices. Each experience reminded me that meaningful service requires presence, humility, respect, and a willingness to learn from the people and communities we hope to support.
I was especially moved by the grandparents, mothers, fathers, and children we met, and by the lives being built among the rice fields, vegetable gardens, mud homes, and humble surroundings. The communities welcomed us with warmth and dignity, and the experience left me with a renewed understanding of our shared humanity. I remain deeply moved, and truly in awe of the profound, sustained work that Care For Life is doing to strengthen families and support communities as they build lasting capacity from within.
I am sincerely grateful to Kim, Mary Jane, Mary Ann, the local partners, the volunteers, and everyone who worked behind the scenes to make this expedition possible. The care, organization, teamwork, and commitment to service were deeply appreciated.
Mozambique was not simply a trip. It was an experience of connection, responsibility, learning, and service that will remain with me for a very long time. Thank you to the ASEA Advancing Life Foundation, working in partnership with Care For Life, for creating this extraordinary opportunity to contribute to the betterment of communities while also being personally transformed by the experience.
With gratitude,
Roslyn Bowers
